A 3-day hands-on workshop about AI/ML was conducted by SCEI in collaboration with SIT. The workshop took place from 17th to 19th August 2018. A total of 40 people across SIT and external participants from BITS Goa, Wipro, DKPR E-learn, Accenture, MIT and University of Dayton Research Institute attended the workshop.
The speakers for the workshop were:
Dr. Ketan Kotecha
Director of SIT
An advocate and practitioner of Emotional Intelligence in workplaces, Dr Ketan Kotecha is at the helm of the Symbiosis Institute of Technology, Symbiosis International (Deemed University). He is also the Dean of Faculty of Engineering at the University. An exceptional academic leader, he has a firm grip on the steering of the institution towards desired vision and mission. His 23 years of extraordinary career saw him serving in the finest of the engineering colleges in various higher technical education leadership positions
Dr Swati Ahirrao

She is an expert in Theory of Computation, Programming Languages, and Distributed Computing
Dr. Rahee Walambe
Professor of SIT
She is an experienced Robotics and AI researcher with a demonstrated ability to combine core research with cutting edge technology to create unique products. Passionate about applications of Machine Learning/Deep Learning for various domains including, multi-sensor data fusion for defence solutions, medical imaging applications and assistive technology.
Dr. Priyank Thakkar
Associate Professor in the Computer Engineering Department, Institute of Technology, Nirma University
He has done his PhD from Nirma University and he is currently working as an associate professor in the Computer Engineering Department, Institute of Technology, Nirma University. He has published more than 18 research papers in international journals and conferences. His research interests include Data and Web Mining, Machine Learning and Soft Computing and their applications. He has served as a program committee member of many international conferences. He is also serving as a reviewer of many national & international journals including.
Experts facilitated technological interactions and deliberations on the areas of Artificial Intelligence, provided real-world problem-definitions and requisite datasets. Participants created running code to implement solutions as a conclusion to the Workshop.
One to one interaction with the participants
On Day-1 the workshop started with an insightful session by Dr. Ketan Kotecha about the applications of Machine Learning and Deep Learning. Participants were given a detailed introduction to AI/ML classification, clustering, regression & regularization and practising of Python Numpy
Day-2 and Day 3 of the workshop sessions was undertaken by Dr. Priyank Thakkar; the participants learnt about the Gradient Descent Algorithm, KNN Naïve-Bayes Decision Tree and practising sklearn for making machine learning programs, all these helped them to generate codes and develop the project by the end of the workshop
Successful completion of the Srujan series workshop on Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning
The workshop was a success as all the participants were successfully able to build small AI/ML applications and code deliverables at the end of the workshop. The response from the participants about the workshop was tremendously good and positive. The participants also asked us to arrange similar workshops to gain more hands-on experience in the future.
