I welcome you all to the Symbiosis Centre for Entrepreneurship & Innovation (SCEI). SCEI is a Technology Business Incubator promoted by Symbiosis International (Deemed University) and supported by Department of Science & Technology (DST), Govt of India.
The history of Symbiosis is a chronicle of vision, passion and courage. Its ethos was inspired by the lofty universal ideals of the Viswa Bharati movement of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore and the Antar Bharati movement of Sane Guruji. Symbiosis is committed to its motto - Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – ‘the world is one family’.
Symbiosis International (Deemed University) stands at the frontiers of global innovation in academics, and all the other components that makes education wholesome, and makes students ready to face the world. Besides imparting knowledge and know-how of the subject of choice, the institution also prepares the student to thrive in the career of his/ her choice and contribute to global development.
SCEI is committed to encourage students to innovate, start their own venture and contribute to employment generation. SCEI aims to support technology start-ups with specific focus on healthcare and health-tech ventures. Dr. Vidya Yeravdekar is the Pro Chancellor of Symbiosis International University. She is also the Principal Director of Symbiosis Society, which encompasses the Symbiosis schools and institutions under the Symbiosis International University. A dream of her father, Dr. S .B Mujumdar, Founder and President of Symbiosis of creating 'a home away from home ' for international students, Symbiosis today, has transformed itself into a multi-disciplinary, multinational, multi-cultural International University having students from all states of India and international students from 85 different countries. The University has institutes under 7 faculties viz. Management, Law, Humanities Social Sciences, Health Biological Sciences, Computer Studies, Engineering, Media Communication Design.
Dr. Vidya holds a Post Graduate Degree in Medicine, a degree in Law and is a Ph.D. in 'Internationalisation of Higher Education in India’. To promote international understanding through quality education, she has brought in innovative approaches at Symbiosis International University through international collaborations with some of the top Universities in the world.
Dr. Rajani Gupte, the Vice Chancellor of Symbiosis International University [ SIU], Pune, completed her doctorate in Economics from the Gokhale Institute of Economics and Politics, Pune. She has more than 30 years of experience in teaching and research at prestigious institutes including Loyala College, Madras and her alma mater the Gokhale Institute. After six years of corporate work experience as a Finance Director, she joined Symbiosis. She was a founding member of Symbiosis Institute of Foreign Trade in 1992 (now Symbiosis Institute of International Business, SIIB) and was Director of SIIB from 2004 – 12. She was instrumental in establishing SIIB as one of the leading B-Schools in India, and in starting innovative niche MBA programs in Agribusiness as well as Energy and Environment. Under her leadership, SIIB built several active international collaborations for student and faculty exchange and created a successful credit exchange program with a German University.
Dr. Gupte also served as Dean - Faculty of Management, Dean - Academics and later Pro - Vice Chancellor at Symbiosis International University. A visiting faculty at the Oakland University, School of Business Administration, Michigan, USA, she has also addressed business leaders at Bremen University for Applied Sciences, Germany. Appointed on the WTO Cell set up by the Department of Horticulture, Government of Maharashtra, she was also a member of the International Trade Panel, CII, Western Region. She was the member of the Advisory Board, Chemtech World Expo from 2009 to 2011. She has been a UGC nominee on various committees.
Dr. Rajiv Yeravdekar has completed his Masters in Obstetrics & Gynaecology from B. J. Medical College, Pune & was awarded the Gold Medal for his outstanding academic performance. He has been awarded Ph.D. under the Faculty of Management by Savitribai Phule University, Pune.
Dr. Rajiv topped the list of successful candidates of the Maharashtra Public Service Commission and joined B. J. Medical College, Pune. His total teaching experience, to date is over 30 years.
He was invited by the Ministry of Health, Sultanate of Oman from 1992 – 1996, where his work was highly appreciated. On completion of this assignment, Dr. Rajiv conceptualized & established the Faculty of Health Sciences at the Symbiosis International University (SIU), Pune which provides on campus healthcare services, offers academic programmes pertinent to the healthcare sector & undertakes community oriented healthcare research projects.
Dr. Rajiv has been a member of various Governmental bodies including Board of Governors of the Medical Council of India (MCI), Governing Council of Consultancy Development Centre (CDC), DSIR, Ministry of Science and Technology, Central Supervisory Board – PCPNDT, Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC), Maharashtra Nursing Council (MNC).
He is a member of various professional bodies like the Federation of Obstetric & Gynecological Societies of India (FOGSI); Indian Society for Critical Care Medicine (ISCCM); Society for Emergency Medicine in India (SEMI); Indian Medical Association (IMA) & non-governmental organizations like FICCI, NATHEALTH etc. He is also a Member, Managing Committee, Symbiosis Society & Board of Management, Symbiosis International University.
As member of various national bodies, Dr Rajiv has contributed to policy formulation and regulatory mechanisms influencing healthcare delivery and medical / nursing education nationally.
Currently the Dean of Faculty of Health Sciences, SIU, Dr. Rajiv’s core area of research is public health with special focus on health promotion. Dr. Rajiv has contributed a number of articles in various national and international journals.
Dr. R Raman has a blend of corporate and academic experience. He started his career with Godrej and Boyce and then ventured into the area of consultancy with - The Leading Edge Consulting Services. His Passion for academics led him into teaching assignment at Vellore Institute of Technology. Carleton University's Sprott School of Business, Canada gave him the platform for global exposure in teaching Information Technology while he was handling the teaching assignment with Kohinoor Business School along with the consulting assignment as an Information Technology Architect with the Kohinoor group of companies for the various verticals including Real Estate, Hotels, Hospitals, Education and Power Generation. He also taught at S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research Mumbai.
Dr. Raman is a Computer Science and Engineering graduate from Madras University, he completed his MBA in Information Systems from the same University. He furthered his education by completing his Postgraduate Diploma in Software Marketing, M.Phil (Management) and Ph.D in Information Technology Enabled Services Strategy. He is a Six Sigma Green Belt and Six Sigma Black Belt Certified by RABQSA (Registrar Accreditation Board Quality Society of Australasia). He is also an Accredited Management Teacher, (a prestigious national recognition conferred by AIMA) and Green IT certified by ISEB.
His teaching and research area include Management Information Systems, Six Sigma for Business, IT Infrastructure Management, Market Research, IT Project Management, Management of Information Technology Enabled Services and Green IT. He has published his research finding in several refereed journals and also has presented several papers in Indian and International conferences.
Mr. Sunil Shirole is a 30 year Banking & Finance veteran and the Founder of Yen Capital. He started his career with Citibank in their Consumer Services Group and thereafter moved to Standard Chartered Bank where he helped launch personal banking in India.n 1997, he joined Deutsche Bank AG and held several senior positions. He was the Head Private Banking for Western India, Country Head India - Financial Resources Group; Chief Representative and Head Global Banking, Eastern India and Senior Vice President in Corporate and Investment banking. He has also served on the Asset Liability Committee (ALCO) at Deutsche Bank. He was responsible for raising more than US$ 500 Million in the International retail bonds markets. He was also involved with several landmark M&A transactions such as the Bharat Forge acquisition of CDP Germany and Unilever acquisition of Rossel Tea. A Corporate Finance specialist, his areas of expertise include early stage investments, debt and equity syndication, private equity, international listings, mergers & acquisitions and credit and transaction structuring. His sector specialization is in Renewable Energy, Healthcare, Real Estate and Education. He has served on several boards as a director and is currently a Member of the Board of Management of Symbiosis Society and a member of the Finance Committee of the Symbiosis International Deemed University. He holds a BA (Economics) from the Fergusson College, University of Pune and an MBA from the Symbiosis Institute of Business Management
As Dean, Academics and Administration, she oversees the Academics department, Symbiosis Teaching Learning Resource Centre and the Library of Symbiosis International Deemed University (SIU), the Schools and the service-providing departments of Symbiosis and as such, she contributes to policy framing and monitoring outcomes desired and articulated by Symbiosis. She is a member of the team that works on the quality initiatives of the University. As one of the researchers representing Symbiosis International Deemed University, she is currently working on an Erasmus funded project on ‘Enhancing Quality Assurance Management and Benchmarking Strategies in Indian Universities’ along with several other Universities from India and Europe.
She holds a PhD in Finance from University of Pune with about 30 years’ experience in teaching and academic administration.
As Dean- Faculty of Management, SIU from 2012 to 2015, she has contributed to the process of curriculum design and cataloguing of courses in the Faculty of Management and the design and delivery of the PhD coursework
She has been the founder director of two institutes of Symbiosis International Deemed University namely, Symbiosis Centre for Management Studies- Pune (2004) and Symbiosis School of Banking & Finance (2010)
Her research interests focus on financial inclusion and inclusive education and have led to papers published in indexed journals. She has to her credit a monograph and nine book chapters in books prescribed for graduate students of University of Pune. She has supervised three doctoral students to completion and award of PhD degree.
She has been a member of the Board of Studies of five different colleges/university departments, where she contributes to curriculum development and the teaching-learning-evaluation process.
As member of Board of Management of SIU, member of the Board of University Development, SIU, and member of the Planning and Monitoring Board of SIU, she brings to the table her rich experience in teaching and administration.
She has represented Symbiosis on several international delegations to Syria, United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, Hungary, Sri Lanka and Australia.
